Der SFB „Produktion von Migration“ am Institut für Migrationsforschung und Interkulturelle Studien lädt zu einer Filmvorführung am 16. April 2026 um 17:30 Uhr ein. Gezeigt wird der Dokumentarfilm Behind the Sun [Derrière le soleil], gefolgt von einem Gespräch mit Regisseur Dhia Jerbi.

The SFB „Production of Migration” at the Institute for Migration Research and Intercultural Studies invites you to a movie screening on 16 April 2026, at 17:30h. The event will present the documentary Behind the Sun [Derrière le soleil], followed by a discussion with director Dhia Jerbi. The documentary follows Dhia, a young director living in exile, who carries a deep fear of passing on his stuttering to his young son, Elia. In his pursuit to overcome this challenge, Dhia embarks on a journey of hypnosis and speech therapy sessions. Yet, as these sessions unfold, it becomes evident that his concerns go beyond mere speech impediments. Dhia is haunted by the possibility of passing on a defeatist mentality and a sense of despair that he perceives in those he left in Tunisia, his home country. Drawing parallels with his own father’s experience, who left the country after political unrest in the late 80s, and his own departure after the 2011 revolution, the documentary tells the story of Dhia’s fears that his son may encounter a similar fate. Behind the Sun begleitet Dhia, einen jungen Regisseur im Exil, den die Angst umtreibt, sein Stottern an seinen kleinen Sohn Elia weiterzugeben. Auf der Suche nach einem Weg, diese Herausforderung zu überwinden, begibt sich Dhia auf eine Reise durch Hypnose- und Sprachtherapiesitzungen. Im Verlauf dieser Sitzungen wird jedoch deutlich, dass seine Sorgen über bloße Sprachprobleme hinausgehen. Dhia fürchtet, auch die resignative Haltung und ein Gefühl der Hoffnungslosigkeit weiterzugeben, die er bei den Menschen wahrnimmt, die er in seinem Heimatland Tunesien zurückgelassen hat. In Anlehnung an die Erfahrungen seines eigenen Vaters, der das Land nach politischen Unruhen Ende der 1980er Jahre verließ, sowie an seine eigene Ausreise nach der Revolution von 2011 erzählt der Dokumentarfilm von Dhias Ängsten, dass sein Sohn ein ähnliches Schicksal erleiden könnte. Der Film wird auf Französisch und Arabisch mit englischen Untertiteln gezeigt, die anschließende Diskussion findet auf Englisch statt.
